USS Parche

For safety reasons, visitors are not allowed to climb up into the conning tower on board USS Bowfin. However, visitors are given the chance to explore the conning tower of another World War II submarine, USS Parche (SS-384), which offers safe and easy access. The conning tower is where the captain would usually be during battle stations, submerged. It contains the steering station, two periscopes, sonar receivers, and controls that fire the torpedoes. Bowfin Park has Parche's conning tower, but the exterior section, with the gun mounts, periscope shears, and much of the rest of the superstructure, is located on Subase, Pearl Harbor.
