US Submarine Sites

Brief histories of nearly all older US Naval Ships may be found at the Haze Gray and Underway website, in their Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships (DANFS) section. Information on vessels currently in the US Navy's inventory or just recently stricken may be found at the Naval Vessel Register (NVR) website.

A great photographic history of US submarines from 1900 through 1940 is found on Through the Looking Glass. Especially noteworthy are the photos on the Squalus/Sailfish pages.

There is also a particularly good site on S-Boats (SS-105 through SS-107, SS-109 through SS-146, and SS-153 through SS-162), appropriately named The S-Boats - Gallant Ladies of the Past. Included is a short history of the never-built "Neff" boat (SS-108).

There is a site dedicated to the "patriot" boats - 41 For Freedom, and one dedicated to all Boomers (SSBN), called BoomerSailors.net.

Information on Submarine Tenders can be found at tendertale.com.

Finally, please visit our companion website, “On Eternal Patrol,” which seeks to honor the men of the U.S. Submarine Force by attempting to put faces to as many of the names on the lists of lost submariners as possible.

Sites Dedicated to Individual U.S. Navy Submarines (by hull number; submarines that are on display are listed with the name of the city in which they are located.):

Deep Submergence Craft:

Sites Dedicated to Individual Submarines of Other Nations:

  • German U-505 (Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, IL)

Unless otherwise noted, all of these sites were active as of 22 November 2005.  Additions and corrections are welcome.  Reciprocal links are requested, but not required.  Please e-mail us at:  info@bowfin.org

This page lists websites dedicated to individual submarines, cross-referenced by name and hull number.

The list is not complete. Some submarines have multiple websites.
