As part of a $20 million revitalization project of the USS Bowfin Submarine & Park, the Pacific Fleet Submarine Memorial Association will temporarily close the museum portion of its Pearl Harbor campus for construction starting today, August 1, 2019. However, the WWII fleet submarine USS Bowfin (SS-287), gift shop, food service, all concessions and lanai will remain open to the public during the renovation work, which is scheduled to run until June 2020.
“We want the public to know that despite the ongoing construction, we are still open for business. This includes the crown jewel of our facility: the submarine USS Bowfin,” said Chuck Merkel, Executive Director of the Pacific Fleet Submarine Memorial Association. “We have made great progress since we began our revitalization in January. We are well on our way toward making our vision a reality and are very excited about completing this project and fully reopening our campus in June of next year.”
With an average of 400,000 visitors per year, the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park is the most visited submarine museum in the world and one of the few places that the public can learn about the history of the United States Navy’s “Silent Service.”
