USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park would like to wish you and your family a Happy Fourth of July!

If you’ve been to the park recently (or plan on visiting in the next several months), you’ll notice a lot of changes. In an effort to expand our reach and impact, USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park is undergoing a major improvement project and renaming itself The Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum at Pearl Harbor.

The Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum at Pearl Harbor, in its updated form, will become a state-of-the-art museum and an interactive, living memorial. It will be a place for veteran submariners to take their families and share their history; a place for civilians to learn about the personal sacrifices made by service members; a place for students to explore the technologies and engineering feats that make the US Submarine Force the best in the world; a place for our local community to embrace and share it’s own story…

In order to maximize the impact of our project, we are looking to our submariner community for support. We are currently engaging a capital campaign that we hope will reach every submariner who has served in the Pacific Fleet.

Open to all high school sophomores, juniors, seniors, and recently graduated seniors, the Summer CTE Academy is a five-week exploratory summer program that offers students the opportunity to experience various career and technical education programs offered at Honolulu Community College.

The high school age students met with Pearl Harbor naval shipyard officials and other organizations to learn about potential opportunities in the maritime industry, using virtual reality technology to replicate shipyard work. Academy students also had an opportunity to tour the USS Bowfin submarine and adjacent museum.

“There is a high demand for skilled workers at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and in Hawaii’s maritime industry, said Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum executive director Chuck Merkel. “We want to help develop local students for good paying jobs here that will allow them to stay home, rather than relocating elsewhere.”
