CAREERS

The Pacific Fleet Submarine Memorial Association was created in 1978 to memorialize sailors of the Silent Service and to maintain the Fleet Submarine USS BOWFIN (SS 287). Since our founding, we have expanded our facilities to include outdoor exhibits and a newly renovated state-of-the-art. Our dexpanded mission now incorporates the STEM of submarines and adds hands-on science experiments to our museum experience. We receive over 400,000 visitors annually from around the world, and our dedicated team of “innovators” also provide programming for local schools.

Please check back for new openings.

We partner with the SSA Group for our retail and food service opportunities, find them here.

VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are essential to our success at the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum. They bring diversity, excitement, and innovation to the team. Our volunteers have the freedom to set their own schedules, ideally volunteering for two to four hours on a weekday between 7 am and 5 pm. They coordinate their schedules with our staff and record their hours in an easy-to-use web app. There are no shifts to cover or replacements to be found.

VOLUNTEER EDUCATION ASSISTANT
Our STEM education volunteers are critical in engaging, educating, and training our guests and Hawaii field-trip students. Lead simple, interesting, and engaging science experiments that pertain to submarine physics and engineering (buoyancy, density, and inertia), history (codebreaking/cryptography, celestial navigation), and our oceans (oceanography, chemistry, marine biology). Previous experience is optional as training is provided.

VOLUNTEER DOCENT
Do you have an interest in naval history? Our docents lead guided tours of our museum and WWII submarine. Docents may also lead tours for our Make a Wish and Dreams Come True families. Previous experience is optional as training is provided.

VOLUNTEER MARINER
Are you on active duty seeking to qualify for the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal? Have you served in or retired from the U.S. Navy? Our Volunteer Mariners stroll our museum and WWII submarine, interacting with our guests, explaining terminology, and answering questions on exhibits and the USS Bowfin. Being a Navy veteran is the only experience necessary. Training is provided on PFSM artifacts and displays.
