Honolulu Community College’s Summer CTE Academy visits the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum

Jul 17, 2025

Over 100 high school students from the Honolulu Community College’s (HCC) Summer CTE Academy visited the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum to wrap up their five-week summer program. The students had the opportunity to meet with Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard officials and other organizations to learn about potential opportunities in the local trade industry and try hands-on experiences in the career field. Academy students also toured the USS Bowfin submarine and the adjacent museum.

The Summer CTE Academy is a five-week exploratory summer program that provides students with the chance to experience various career and technical education programs at Honolulu Community College. Open to all high school sophomores, juniors, seniors, and recent graduates, the program runs from June 12 to July 16.

“Our mission is to inspire and educate the next generation by connecting history with hands-on experiences,” said Andrew “Homer” Ring, executive director of the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum. “Programs like the Summer CTE Academy are vital for building a strong future workforce. The museum is proud to be a contributor to these programs that benefit the local community and contribute to our national security.”
