Mahalo for 33 Years of Dedicated Service, Lana!

Sep 2, 2025

After 33 years of dedicated service, the Pacific Fleet Submarine Museum proudly recognizes Lana Vargas for her unwavering commitment, professionalism, and enduring aloha.

Lana’s story with the museum began in 1992 as a receptionist and grew into a legacy. As Executive Secretary, she supported every Executive Director in the museum’s history — offering steadfast guidance and a welcoming presence to staff, volunteers, and visitors alike. Her submarine connection started even earlier, when she met her husband, Eddie Vargas, a submariner, in her home country of New Zealand at just 18 years old. The two eventually settled in Hawaiʻi after Eddie’s naval career, and Lana soon found her own home at the museum.

Now, as she steps into retirement, we celebrate a career that has shaped our story in countless ways. Lana, we wish you joy, rest, and time for all that you love. Mahalo for everything.
